If you believe a recent post on Brow Beat, Slate's culture blog, inline skates are making a comeback. Author Julia Felsenthal proves her point with everything from personal anecdotes ("my boyfriend . . . excitedly texted me that two of his female brunch companions had arrived at the restaurant in a rolling manner . . .") to haute couture (such as a high-fashion photo shoot) on wheels.
The real proof of inline skates' returning popularity is their expansion into niche markets. Case in point: When ConsumerSearch wrote the inline skate report in 2008, there weren't enough sources to pick Best Reviewed skates in aggressive and roller hockey skates categories. Fast forward to 2011. While review sources are still a little thin, review sites like Buzzillions, and an abundance of expert video reviews, helped us choose Best Reviewed skates in several new categories.
