Family and the OlympicsMarcus
My Cousin is "gliding" - walking by holding onto furniture and scaring his parents as he tries to go from one island to the next. He isn't quite up to independent walking yet, but you get the feeling it is coming soon.
2010 Olympics
The Olympics have been a long time coming and they are finally here. I decided to wander around and check out some of the features. It's the Vancouver I remember, but a little different. The zip line across Robson Square is cool - apparently the line up was 6 hours on Saturday. The line up to get into the Bay (olympic store) was steady at 30 to 45 minutes.
The Olympic cauldron was nice to see - you can't get very close, but perhaps that makes it look better.
Granville Street around Robson is closed and people mass there to see the "lanterns". The sea wall swarms with tourists.
On some of the old expo site (soon to be condo's) there are a number of "houses" - Quebec house (the giant Q), Saskatchwan house (the dome) and Ontario House (the string art). The houses don't have that much inside - usually some sort of food service showing off local wine and food. There is usually a photo display of local tourist attractions. Sochi House (Science World) has a large display by the 2014 winter Olympic site in Sochi, Russia. My favorite house was Northern Canada House - they had taxidermy models of northern animals you have your photo with. 
Every night there is a small fireworks display in False Creek. The fireworks happens in concert with a laser display that shines images onto a spray of water. It's all very impressive.

2012 RS Venture GT Yamaha snowmobile
The 2012 RS Venture GT is based on Vector snowmobile. Its front end now incorporates a version of the Delta Box steering gate that appeared on the 2011 Apex and is designed to accommodate the needs of electric steering. So the 2012 Vector gets some of the Apex technology. The snowmibile is still powered by Yamaha 3-cylinder mid performance engine and features Yamaha third generation double A-arm front suspension with revised geometry to increase trail.

Oxford's Ashmolean museum improving its world-class Egyptian galleries

The famous Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology in Oxford, England, reopened in 2009 after a £61 million ($101 million) makeover. The redesigned space is more open and airy, with more natural light and windows between exhibitions. Floorspace was doubled in size and the exhibits were made more informative and user firendly. A museum worker explained to me that part of the plan was to make it so you can always see your way out. This is to combat museum fatique. Personally I'm a museum junkie and I don't get museum fatigue, but it sounds like a good idea.
Despite three years of work and the high price tag, the Ashmolean's famous Egyptian galleries got left behind. There was no money to redo them at the time but after collecting another £5 million ($8.3), the galleries are now shut and going through a major overhaul. The four old Egyptian galleries were crowded and poorly lit, and will now be redesigned along the lines of the rest of the musuem. They'll also expand into a fifth gallery to give the collection more room.
The Ashmolean Museum has been collecting Egyptian artifacts since 1683, when it was founded as the oldest public museum in the world. Its displays tell the story of one of the world's greatest civilizations from its prehistoric beginnings until it became part of the Greek and Roman empires. Its collection of predynatic artifacts is the best outside of Egypt and show how Egypt developed into a superpower.
The Egyptian galleries will reopen in November 2011 and Gadling plans to be there to cover it.

Winter Vegetable & Tofu Korma
Lately I've been making a thick, cumin and coriander-spiced root vegetable stew. It's a free-wheeling one-pot dinner that attempts to use up whatever winter vegetables I have lingering about, and provides leftovers for a day or two to come. I'm not entirely sure what to call it. A curry? A korma? Either way, I took some to my sister's recently, and she asked for the recipe. Heather, here you go :). We can make it the next time I come over if you want. xo. There's quite a bit of chopping involved, but a big pot of goodness is the reward.
In the version I made for her, I used potatoes, cauliflower, and then a bit of tofu for protein and substance - but other times I trade in carrots, or parsnips, or shredded cabbage. I use a yogurt/cream blend here, which is inspired by Indian kormas, but there is no reason you couldn't substitute coconut milk for that lux-y creamy component.
You can eat this as-is. Or serve it over brown rice, or with a side of naan or flatbread. I admit, I've even had leftovers for lunch atop a scoop of farro. One other thing I've noticed is how good the sauce is in its own right - without the chunky vegetables and tofu. I can imagine it working nicely with dumplings, drizzled across a crunchy-topped frittata, tossed with egg noodles....
You can prep a lot of this ahead of time to make it a more week-night friendly. For example, go ahead and measure out the spices ahead of time, and keep them in an air-tight container. And go ahead and chop the onions, ginger, cauliflower, and tofu a day or two in advance if you like. But if you cut the potatoes early, keep them covered in a bowl of water to keep them from browning - you can cut those a day or so in advance as well.
