I want to go on a hiking/camping trip. I'm looking for somewhere that is less than a two hour drive from DC. I prefer a place where I can follow a trail but also do some wilderness hiking as well. I would like to set up my shelter in the bush, not at a campground. I want to also be near a relatively clean body of water where I can fill up and use chlorine tablets if necessary. I would prefer hiking uphill and having a scenic view at the end of my hike. I want the trip to take between 2-3 days and consist of a somewhat strenuous hike. I would rather there be no wild cats, dogs (wolves), or extremely dangerous spiders in the area. Rabbits nearby are not a necessity but a plus since I would like to set a couple snares. I must be able to build a campfire without park rangers swarming me. Any suggestions?
